The Importance of Having Right Values

What you value in life determines your priorities, your thoughts and your actions. Having the right values will lead you to success in life and eternity. Having wrong values will lead you to failure in life and eternity.

Luke 16:15b (NIV)  What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight.

The majority of people get their values from the people around them, they follow the crowd. Unfortunately, the crowd is always wrong. The values of the crowd are detestable to God.

The world values a woman’s so-called right to choose to kill her unborn child. God detests that selfish value and places great value on every child from conception.

The world values children being manipulated into choosing a different gender and having their bodies surgically mutilated. God detests those values and values each boy and girl that He has created in His image.

My message, Do You Have Jesus’ Values? will help you discern and discard the crowd’s values in your life and replace them with God’s values.

Learn How to Change Your Life Instantly

Today, I’m thinking about making some changes in my life, like cutting down on reading the news. Not much good news out there. But I’ve got some good news for you today.

Would you like to see some changes in your life? People are spending lots of money to see changes in their health, wealth or happiness. Yet, for the most part, these attempts end in failure.

God wants you to live the joyful life He created you to live. God has created a way to transform your life, not in decades or years, but in an instant. It begins with understanding an ancient Greek word that we translate today as repentance.

Repentance is one of the most important words in the Bible. Why is repentance so important? Without repentance a person cannot be saved. Hell is populated with people who have not repented.

Repentance is not just something that you do once is life. Repentance is meant to be practiced daily, that’s what believers do.

So, what does repentance mean? In the Greek language, the word for repent is metanoew, which means to change one’s thinking, to turn around. John the Baptist’s ministry was a call to repentance. Jesus’ ministry is summarized in …

Mark 1:15 (ESV) and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

So, in Jesus’ call, one must repent, turn away from sin and believe in the gospel of Jesus. Let’s look more closely at what it means to repent. The Bible teaches that everyone worships something or someone. There are no exceptions. God’s Word tells us that God has revealed Himself to everyone on the planet.

Romans 1:21-23 (ESV) For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

You see, there are only two options to worship. You can worship the one and only true God, the creator. Or you can worship created things, images, people, pleasure, power, money, etc. The Bible calls anything you worship other than God an idol and all idols are empowered by demons.

How to Understand the Times

God desires for us to understand or interpret the times in which we are living. We are living in a unique time in history. Although there may be parallels to other times, nobody has ever lived in a time just like today in the history of the world.

1 Chronicles 12:32a (ESV) Of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, …

This verse tells us that the men of Issachar had an understanding of their times. Why was it important to understand the times in which they lived? Because that understanding showed them what Israel ought to do. In other words, understanding the times gives us insight on how to live wisely.

What are the times in which we are living today? The Bible teaches us that the era of time we are living in is called the last days.

Acts 2:17 (ESV) And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

In the context of this verse, it shows us that the last days are the time between when Jesus ascended into heaven and when He will return. So we are living in the last days, 2000 years closer to Jesus’ return than Peter was on the day of Pentecost which we just read.

What’s going to happen in the last days? There are a lot of arguments about that. Is it going to get better or worse?

My message, Understanding the Times will answer those questions and teach you how to understand the unique and dangerous times in which we live. Click the button below to watch the message and gain access to the free study guide.

How to Eliminate Worry

Today, I’m going to be writing about eliminating worry from your life. No one enjoys worrying, but we all are tempted to worry about all kinds of things. Worry is allowing one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles. Wouldn’t you like to completely stop worrying? And no, the solution to ending worry is not winning the lottery.

Worry is like negative faith. Worry looks into the future and believes that things are going to get worse, not better. When you sow those kind of negative thoughts about the future, oftentimes you reap the very things you worried about. What does God’s Word have to say about worrying or being anxious?

Philippians 4:6 (ESV)  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

God commands us to not worry about anything. Do you believe that’s possible? God never tells us to do something that’s impossible. Why do we worry anyway? People worry because they don’t believe that God is able or willing to help them. The above verse is a promise that rather than worrying about something, we should pray and ask for God’s help. When you follow God’s instructions, God will answer your prayers.

How to Overcome Worry

Worry and stress are at all-time levels in America at this time. The compounded stress of two years of COVID interrupting our lives has taken a toll. Then we have the added stress of the Ukraine war with Russia, inflation, border security, rising crime and political divisions. This stress has resulted in a dramatic increase in alcohol consumption, drug addiction and undesired weight changes.

Jesus commanded his followers that they should not fear or worry about the challenges of life. To disobey Jesus and worry is to sin, which oftentimes brings the very things that we feared happening into our lives. How can we therefore overcome fear and worry?

The amazing answer that the Bible gives us is that we should have only one fear in our lives. When we have that one fear, we need not fear anything else, either circumstances, people or the future.

Proverbs 1:7 (ESV)  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

The Bible teaches us that we are to fear God alone. We are to both love God, submit our lives to him and to fear him. Jesus explains further the difference between fearing man and fearing God.

Luke 12:4-5 (ESV)  “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do.  But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!

God is all powerful and holds the eternal destiny of every person in his hands. The greatest disaster that could happen to any person is to spend eternity in hell. Everything else in this short life is nothing when compared to that eternal future.

Beware of false teachers.

Watchout for False Teachers | Luke 11

Why should you be concerned with false teachers? Because false teachers are all around you and can ruin your life. A false teacher teaches things that are not true, they are lies. If a person believes those lies, he will bear the negative consequences.

False teachers are in the media, in the schools, in the government, in businesses and in the churches. Our country is in trouble because of the rapid expansion of false teaching. Since false teaching is so rampant, it is difficult for many to recognize it.

Jesus warned about false prophets in Matthew 7:15 (ESV) “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” This verse shows us that false teachers/prophets are dangerous and that they are not easy to detect.

A recent poll by leading Christian pollster George Barna revealed that just 37% of Christian pastors have a biblical worldview. So, the problem of false teachers is in the majority of American churches that are no longer biblical churches.

My message, Beware of False Teachers, will help you study the teaching of Jesus on recognizing false teachers and false teaching.
