Strengthened by the Word (Joshua 1:1-9)

Today, my message is entitled “Strengthened by the Word.” God has incredible plans for your life and those plans are not just about you. God does want to meet your needs, God does want to bring healing into your life, God does want to fix your problems, but that’s not the end of the story. God wants to bless you so that you can be a blessing to others. God wants to bless you so that you can impact your world for Jesus. God wants to bless you so that you can lead others to Jesus Christ. And those incredible plans that God has for your life are so incredible that you can’t carry them out in your own strength. You need God’s strength to do God’s will, you need to be strengthened by God’s Word. …

Guided by the Word (Psalm 119:97-108)

In our message series, The Book of Life, we’re looking at the importance of the Bible to every person’s life. The Bible, God’s Word, is the one and only essential guide to living a successful life. Today, my message is entitled “Guided by the Word.” We’re going to be learning how God’s Word can guide your life, directing you away from paths that lead away from God and guiding you on the path that God has designed for you.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. …

Applying the Word (Matthew 13:1-23)

Today, we’re going to continue talking about the most famous book in the history of the world, the Bible, in our message series called The Book of Life. Let’s look at a few more statistics about the Bible from the American Bible Society’s 2012 survey. Generational patterns are seen where younger adults are less likely to perceive the Bible as relevant and useful. 62% of adults over 66 believe the Bible contains everything a person needs to live a meaningful life. The percentage drops to 54% for those ages 47-65, 44% for those ages 28-46 and only 34% for those 18-27. George Barna reports that only one-half of one percent of college-age adults have a biblical worldview, which is understanding the basic truths of the Bible. We need to reach out to the youth and young adults of today with the truth of God’s Word. …

Seeing Jesus in the Word (John 1:1-18)

Today, we’re going to be talking about the God’s Word, the Bible in our message series called The Book of Life. The American Bible Society has recently released in-depth findings from their annual “The State of the Bible” survey for 2012. Bibles are everywhere in America, 85% of households own a Bible and the average number of Bibles is 4.3 per household. 79% of Americans believe they are knowledgeable about the Bible, but the majority, 54%, could not identify the first 5 books of the Bible. Approximately half, 46% of Americans, believe that the Bible, the Koran and the book of Mormon are different expressions of the same spiritual truths. Nothing could be farther from the truth. 50% of high school seniors think that Sodom and Gomorrah were married. It’s no wonder our nation is in the state it’s in. The Bible is God’s essential tool to live a live wisely and successfully. Without it, people are doomed to failure in their lives. …

How to be a Successful Father (Deuteronomy 6:1-9)

Today, we’re beginning a new message series called “The Book of Life.” We’re going to be talking about something that is an essential component of every father’s toolkit, a book called the Bible.

When our country was founded, a deep knowledge of the Bible was part of every person’s education. Today, the most famous book in the history of the world is rarely studied in school, except for those majoring in theology. A recent survey showed that 58% of the Americans are not interested in the wisdom of the Bible and 57% read is less than 5 times a year. People think they know what is in the Bible, but surveys have shown time and again, that most people’s concept of what the Bible says is largely incorrect. …

Is Healing Important in Outreach? (Matthew 9:35 – 10:8)

Today my message is entitled “Is Healing Important in Outreach?” We’re going to explore the importance of healing in outreach. So to begin with, we need to define what outreach is all about. Outreach is summarized by Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20, often called the Great Commission.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” …
